President Donald Trump may deserve some credit for Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders being drafted, according to White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt.

The star quarterback and son of NFL Hall of Famer Deion Sanders became the buzz of the 2025 NFL Draft after he didn't get drafted in the first round as expected by many sports fans and reporters.

Following the first round of the draft, Trump joined in on the conversation, calling league owners "stupid" for not picking up the Colorado football star.

"What is wrong with NFL owners, are they STUPID? Deion Sanders was a great college football player, and was even greater in the NFL. He's also a very good coach, streetwise and smart! Therefore, Shedeur, his quarterback son, has PHENOMENAL GENES, and is all set for Greatness. He should be 'picked' IMMEDIATELY by a team that wants to WIN. Good luck Shedeur, and say hello to your wonderful father!" Trump wrote on Truth Social on Friday (April 25).

Sanders was ultimately drafted by the Cleveland Browns on Saturday (April 26) during the fifth round.

During Monday's (April 28) White House press briefing, Fox News reporter Peter Doocy asked about Trump's posts and if the present believed he "deserves credit" for Sanders' selection.

"All I will say is, the president put out a statement, and a few rounds later he was drafted," Leavitt said in a statement. "So I think the facts speak for themselves on that one, Peter."
