A 15-year-old Florida student has been charged after allegedly fatally shooting a classmate whom he bumped into at school.

According to PEOPLE, Jacori Redding, 15, is facing charges of manslaughter with a firearm and possession of a firearm on school property. Prosecutors said Redding will be tried as an adult.

The shooting of 16-year-old Pinien Dalmacy, Redding's classmate, occurred on October 9 at Oak Ridge High School in Sky Lake, Florida. According to investigators, Redding and Dalmacy accidentally bumped into each other in the hallway and began arguing.

“Pinien told Jacori to apologize, and he would not, so the two sophomores agreed to fight after school at the park,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement.

Instead, Redding allegedly shot Dalmacy before fleeing back to the school. Sheriff John Mina said officers quickly locked down the campus after receiving reports of gunfire. Redding was later found inside the cafeteria with a gun in his backpack.

Authorities have not said where Redding obtained the firearm. Mina noted the teen had been on trial for grand theft auto at the time of the shooting.

“My heart aches for Pinien’s family, who are grieving this unimaginable loss,” Mina said. “And I’m angry that something as small as bumping into someone in the halls of a high school can result in a shooting death.”

A GoFundMe launched by Dalmacy’s family described him as “full of light, always smiling, always dancing, and loved by everyone who knew him.”

Redding is due back in court on November 12.
